About the Artist/painter:
Born Chen Liwen (陈立文), known internationally as David Chen and by his artistic name Kong Gu (空谷), the artist paints with Chinese brush and hand fingers alike, working across ink, digital media, and mixed techniques.
His return to the brush was driven not only by a lifelong love of painting — a gift for art that had been with him since childhood — but also by the need to heal a body and mind worn down by overwork and sustained pressure, including a hereditary condition that had long gone unaddressed. What began as personal restoration gradually opened into a broader dialogue: between tradition and code, between the spontaneous gesture of ink and the deliberate structure of pixels.
David's art is a space for quiet seeing, for collecting, and for cross-cultural exchange — where each work carries an echo of the Daodejing, inviting viewers to pause, breathe, and look again
